A Mouse in the house
It was on a very fine weekend that I was sitting in a living room eating pizza with Laura and Justine. Matt was upstairs while Jenny was in the kitchen. Outside wasdark and slightly on the chilly side.
As I glanced across the room my attention was not upon the food that Justine had spilt down her top, nor was it attracted to the haze of the streetlighting out of the window but to the movement of a small creature scurring across the hallway.
As it took my mind a few seconds to register the movement Laura said "did you see that". It was then confirmed a mouse had shot past and was hiding under the stairs. This was the point when Laura started to freak out.
I quickly rushed into action "Matt" I shouted "We have got a mouse". Not sure weather to believe me Matt came downstairs to clarify the story. By this point Justine had also believed us that we had seen a mouse and were not making it up and rushed into action. Un afraid of a small cute creature she proceeded to ask where it went and started to move things to find it. Matt was a bit freaked out and wanted a hockey stick just in case it came too close to him.
As we started the mouse hunt we agreed not to kill it but allow it to leave via the front door.
Eventually we found the mouse hiding behind a box in the corner. It must have been terrified by all the comotion that was being made. We came up with a plan to stop the mouse going the wrong way by making noise an banging hockey sticks.
The box was moved by justine. Matt was blocking the staris. I was next to Justine blocking the hallway. Jenny was still cooking in the kitchen and Laura was standing on the sofa staying as far away as possible.
When the box moved the mouse froze for a second and tried to go for a victory run past Justine and I, but it could not pass. It then hid under the box we had just moved.
Concerned that the mouse could be squashed Justine took the brave action of moving the box while Matt screamed "where is it? where is it? where is it?"
The box moved and the mouse made another run for it. This time it ran into a shoe. I picked up the shoe and threw it out of the front door. The mouse, uninjured, jumped out of the shoe after the shoe had landed and ran down the road. Matt jumped to the door and closed it after the shoe was recoverd.
With our bodies pumping with adrenaline we congratulated one another on such a great team effort. Well done team.
We do not know where the mouse came from. We suspect it came in through the back door that had been left open recently. We did investigate other options but found no signs of mice living in our house.
