1.5 Accessible Techniques
The tools provided to aid the use of computers for visually impaired people need to be understood, at least at a basic level, by developers to create accessible content. The web will only become more accessible to those with disabilities when developers keep in mind those who are less able. Sticking to the WACG from W3 will improve accessibility dramatically but it leaves out some of the new technologies emerging. The new 2.0 WCAG guideline will cover more multimedia content and include some alternatives to allow a disabled user to access the information. For those designers who are at the front of new multimedia and web 2.0 technologies the inclusion of accessibility can be seen as a restriction to development. It is not always easy to provide an alternative text-based version of the information when the developer is already producing complex programming to provide a good interface to those who are able bodied.
